What you need

The steps
First, remove your number plates from the car. If you are sending the car to a wrecker or cash-for-cars buyer, take the plates off before the tow truck arrives, do not let the car leave with the plates still attached.
Second, complete the cancellation form, one per vehicle for a small number of cancellations. Include the reason and the odometer reading.
Third, lodge the cancellation with Transport and Main Roads and surrender the standard plates. This can be done in person at a customer service centre, and Queensland also offers an online cancellation through your TMR account, provided the plates are surrendered or properly declared.

How the refund works
