Short motors out of otherwise-damaged cars are among the most useful things in the yard, particularly for the older EJ engines. Ask early, because they do not last.
How do I find out if you have the part I need?
Subaru fitment hangs on the engine as much as the body. The EJ and FB engines are different animals, and within the EJ range the turbo and naturally aspirated versions share less than people expect. Tell us the engine code if you have it, along with the VIN. For a Forester it is worth saying whether it is the SF, SG, SH or SJ, and for an Impreza whether it is a GC, GD, GE or GJ. The WRX and STI take their own components again, and those are the parts that move fastest.
Why buy second hand rather than new?
Boxer engines are the reason the used-parts market matters for Subaru. The older EJ engines have well-documented head gasket weaknesses, and by the time one lets go the repair cost on a car of that age rarely stacks up. A used short motor or a complete engine out of a car that was written off for accident damage is often the difference between keeping the car and scrapping it. Do you deliver, or do I collect?
Complete engines and gearboxes are collected from Alexandra Hills. Smaller driveline and interior parts we can send. If you are coming in, ring first so we can have the part out and ready rather than have you wait while we pull it.
